Feeling stuck in a reading slump? Sometimes you just need the right book to get you back into it. A story that flows effortlessly, hooks you from the start and makes you forget you were ever slumping at all.
Here are 7 books that did exactly that for me; easy to get into and full of excitement and just enough mystery to keep you turning pages
They are mostly fantasy (because thats my jam) with a touch of romance, but I’m including two that are full-on rom-com escapes too. Hope you find something to get you back in your bookish mood!

The Scars Within by Ang T. Dalton
The Scars Within is a spellbinding romantasy packed with slow-burn heat, found family, snarky banter, and a dangerous romance that scorches through every page. It set in a war college, and it has dragons – what more do you need?
The Awakening (Zodiac Academy #1) by Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti
A chaotic, trope-filled fantasy school with magic, danger, drama, and lots of enemies-to-lovers tension. If you want something a bit unhinged, dramatic, and unputdownable, this will suck you in fast!
Warning: This series is highly addictive… and the first book of nine (plus novellas and side stories!). Enter at your own risk.

Direbound by Sable Sorensen
If you’re into war colleges, magical bonds, and deadly trials—Direbound delivers. With direwolves, strong character dynamics, and just the right balance of tension and heart, this fantasy romance is fast-paced and easy to devour. A great pick when you want to get hooked quickly and entertained for hours (because you’re not able to put it down once you start).
Daughter of the Pirate King by Tricia Levenseller
An easy YA fantasy with a fierce heroine who gets herself captured on purpose to track down a hidden map. Expect sharp banter, secret plots, and a romance that’s full of tension and sass. It’s fast-paced, fun, and perfect when you need an adventurous escape that flows easily.

The Crimson Moth by Kristen Cicarelli
This book follows Rune who spends her nights as the Crimson Moth, a witch vigilante who rescues her kind from being purged. When a rescue goes wrong, she decides to throw the witch hunters off her scent and gain the intel she desperately needs by courting the handsome Gideon Sharpe. Perfect blend of mystery, fantasy and romance – this is one of my favorites so far this year.
The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood
This fan-favorite STEM romcom delivers exactly what it promises: awkward fake dating, a sunshine-grumpy dynamic, and banter that’ll keep you grinning. Super easy to read and full of charm—it’s like comfort food for your reader brain.

A feel-good romance about heartbreak, healing, and finding joy again. With forced proximity, unexpected friendship, and Emily Henry’s signature wit, this one’s cozy, heartfelt, and full of hope—perfect if you want to fall back in love with reading.
