Book review of The Rebel Witch

By Eli on June 14, 2025June 14, 2025

Get to Know the Book

Title: The Rebel Witch
Author: Kristen Ciccarelli
Published: 2024
The Story at a Glance: Rune Winters is on the run. Ever since the man she loved, Gideon Sharpe, revealed who she was and delivered her into enemy hands, everyone wants her dead. If Rune hopes to survive, she must ally herself with the cruel and dangerous Cressida Roseblood, who’s planning to take back the Republic and reinstate a Reign of Witches—something Cressida needs Rune to accomplish.

My thoughts…

Rating:

This was such a satisfying conclusion to The Crimson Moth duology. I loved The Rebel Witch (almost) just as much as the first book. While the action and pacing were still strong, what really stood out to me this time was how much deeper we got into the characters. Rune and Gideon both felt even more real and layered, and I found myself caring about them more than I expected (especially considering how much I already liked them in book one).

Another thing I really enjoyed was the introduction of a few unexpected side characters who joined the fight. They added new perspectives and energy, and gave the story a fresh dynamic just when you thought you had the cast figured out.

The story took some unexpected turns close to the end that made me go ‘Whaat?’. But it wrapped things up in a way that felt true to the story.

If you’re into fantasy with rebellion, magic, and strong character dynamics, this duology is 100% worth your time.

Disclaimer: These are just my personal thoughts – totally okay if you feel differently! I’m a mood reader, so timing and vibes definitely affect how much I enjoy a book. I read for entertainment, not to analyze every line like a literature professor. So take this as a casual opinion from one booklover to another. ❤️
