Last week I finally got my hands on some gouache! I’ve been wanting to try this for a while, and it’s really fun but definitely a challenge. I’m so used to watercolors where everything starts light and blends easily… gouache said “nope.” (O I haven’t figured out how to do it yet). But love that I can easily paint on black paper and enjoying the learning curve!

For a while now, I’ve had this idea brewing: a set of tarot card illustrations inspired by readers and stories. I know this has been done before but I still feel inspired to create my take on it.
This sketch is my first dive into that concept, and I’ve named it ‘The Battle.’ I represents the inner conflict, the turning point in a story when a character faces something that forces growth, change, or surrender. I imagine this card representing moments when readers, too, confront something powerful in a book.
