Rating:
I really enjoyed this book, and in the beginning I absolutely loved it. For the first time ever, I even felt like annotating a physical book (and this wasn’t even a buddy read!). The writing is stunning, and I completely understand why so many people adore this story.
That said, I definitely picked the wrong month to read it. August was so busy that I only managed to read in tiny snippets, two pages here, two pages there, and for *this* book, that just didn’t work. I knew it was supposed to be slow, but reading it so fragmented made it feel like it wasn’t going anywhere. 💀 Since it was a book club pick, I also had a deadline and ended up skimming parts of the final section just to finish in time. 🥸
I honestly think that if I’d read it in a calmer month, with the time to sink into the story, it could have been a new favorite. The prose was beautiful, and I can see why it resonates so deeply with so many readers. For me, it’s a 3.5 stars read, but with the right timing, it might have been close to a 5. ✨
