If you’re in the mood for a story that feels like a warm hug then The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna is exactly what you need.
The story follows Mika Moon, a lonely witch who’s spent her life hiding her magic from the world. In a society where witches must keep their powers secret, Mika has grown used to being on her own, keeping people at arm’s length and never staying in one place for too long. That all changes when she’s invited to a mysterious, secluded house to help three young witches learn to control their abilities. What she finds there is far more than just a teaching job. There’s delightful chaos, unexpected friendship, and the kind of found family that gently wraps around your heart and refuses to let go.
I absolutely adored this book. It made me laugh out loud and cry happy tears, sometimes both within the same chapter. The characters are quirky, lovable, and beautifully flawed in the most endearing ways. The romance is sweet and slow-burning, and the themes of belonging, identity, and self-acceptance are handled with such warmth and sincerity that they linger with you long after you’ve turned the last page.
This is the perfect cozy fantasy, full of heart, humor, and just the right amount of magic. It’s a feel-good read that’s ideal for any time you need a little bit of comfort and joy in book form. A true must-read.
