Get to Know the Book
Title: Vow of ThievesAuthor: Sangu Mandanna
Published: 2025
The Story at a Glance: Sera Swan used to be one of the most powerful witches in Britain. Then she resurrected her great-aunt Jasmine from the (very recently) dead, lost most of her magic, befriended a semi-villainous talking fox, and was exiled from her Guild. Now she (slightly reluctantly and just a bit grumpily) helps her aunt run an enchanted inn in Lancashire, where she deals with her quirky guests’ shenanigans, tries to keep said talking fox in check, and longs for the future that seems lost to her. But then she finds out about an old spell that could hold the key to restoring her power…
My thoughts…
Rating:
I liked this book. It’s a cozy read with moments of genuine humor and plenty of beautiful scenes, some even brought tears to my eyes. However, there was something about the story that didn’t fully click for me. It felt a bit flat at times, if that makes sense? Maybe I just wasn’t in the right mood for it.
That said, it’s definitely a book I’d still recommend, especially if you enjoy an eccentric found family, and deeper themes about finding your place in the world and learning to be enough.
3.5 stars for a warm and thoughtful read with a few small misses for me.
